Prof. Takashi Kawai

Prof. Takashi Kawai currently serves as Professor Emeritus and Distinguished Professor at Tokyo Medical University Hospital, where he is affiliated with the Center for Health Surveillance and Preventive Medicine.
He earned both his M.D. and Ph.D. in Medical Science from Tokyo Medical University, and specialized in gastroenterology. Prof. Kawai possesses extensive clinical expertise across upper and lower gastrointestinal diseases, Helicobacter pylori infection, and advanced endoscopic diagnosis and therapy, including ultrathin transnasal endoscopy. He is widely recognized as a leading figure in the field of gastroenterology.
Prof. Kawai is also highly regarded for his academic leadership on the international stage. He is a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American College of Gastroenterology and has served as President of the Japanese Association for Cancer Detection and Diagnosis. In addition, he holds key leadership roles in several major Japanese professional societies, including the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, the Japanese Society of Geriatric Gastroenterology, and the Japanese Society of Ulcer Research.
