Dr. Angela Rasmussen
University of Saskatchewan, Canada
Dr. Angela Rasmussen, PhD is a Principal Research Scientist and virologist at the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO) at the University of Saskatchewan. Her research focuses on the role of the host in susceptibility and pathogenesis to emerging viruses with major global health impact, including avian influenza, dengue, Ebola, mpox, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2. Her lab combines classical experimental virology and animal models with systems biology and AI-based predictive approaches to study host responses across species, applying a One Health framework to emerging zoonoses. Dr. Rasmussen received her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Columbia University and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Washington, and holds additional faculty appointments at the University of Saskatchewan and Stony Brook University.
Dr. Rasmussen is co-Editor-in-Chief of Vaccine, Assistant Editor at mSphere, and serves on the editorial boards of Cell Reports and npj Viruses. She is a prolific science communicator dedicated to providing accurate, accessible information on infectious disease, vaccination, and pandemic preparedness to the public and to policymakers. She is an outspoken advocate for vaccination as a cornerstone of public health and pandemic prevention, and is committed to advancing evidence-based health policy and the responsible governance of high-consequence pathogen research — work she views as inherently collaborative and international.
